WB TET

The West Bengal Teacher Eligibility Test (WB TET) is a state-level eligibility examination conducted by the West Bengal Board of Primary Education (WBBPE) for candidates aspiring to become teachers in government and government-aided primary and upper primary schools across West Bengal. The WB TET is mandated by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) as per the Right to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, making it a compulsory qualification for teaching positions in classes I to VIII throughout the state. The examination is conducted in two distinct papers: Paper I for candidates seeking to teach classes I to V (primary level) and Paper II for those aspiring to teach classes VI to VIII (upper primary level). Candidates intending to teach across both levels may appear for both papers. The WB TET is typically conducted annually, though the frequency may vary based on recruitment requirements and administrative decisions. The exam comprises objective-type multiple-choice questions, with each paper carrying 150 marks and a duration of 150 minutes. Qualifying the WB TET does not guarantee employment; rather, it certifies a candidate's eligibility to apply for teaching positions when recruitment notifications are issued by the School Service Commission (SSC), West Bengal, or other relevant authorities. The certificate remains valid for life, and there is no restriction on the number of attempts.
