The **Tamil Nadu Teacher Eligibility Test (TNTET)** is a state-level teacher eligibility examination conducted by the Teacher Recruitment Board (TRB), Government of Tamil Nadu. This examination is mandatory for candidates aspiring to become teachers in Classes I to VIII in government and aided schools across Tamil Nadu. The TNTET is conducted in accordance with the guidelines issued by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and follows the framework established by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for Teacher Eligibility Tests across India. The examination is designed to assess the pedagogical understanding, subject knowledge, and aptitude of candidates for the teaching profession. The TNTET is conducted as a state-level competitive examination, and candidates who qualify in this examination receive a Certificate of Eligibility, which is valid for their entire lifetime for appointment as teachers in Tamil Nadu schools. The exam is divided into two papers: Paper I for candidates aspiring to teach Classes I to V (Primary Stage) and Paper II for those seeking to teach Classes VI to VIII (Upper Primary Stage). Candidates intending to teach both stages must appear for both papers. The Teacher Recruitment Board conducts this examination periodically, typically once or twice a year, depending on recruitment requirements and government notifications. The TNTET certificate is a prerequisite for applying to various teaching positions advertised by the School Education Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, Municipal Corporations, and aided school managements across the state. The examination covers subjects including Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I (Tamil), Language II (English), Mathematics, Environmental Studies (for Paper I), and Science and Social Studies (for Paper II).
