The Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test (JTET) is a state-level eligibility examination conducted by the Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC), Ranchi, to assess the eligibility of candidates aspiring to become teachers in government and government-aided schools across Jharkhand. This examination is mandatory for candidates seeking teaching positions for classes I to VIII in the state, in accordance with the guidelines set by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) and the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act, 2009. The Jharkhand Teacher Eligibility Test is conducted annually to maintain a pool of qualified teaching professionals who can contribute to the educational development of the state. The examination is divided into two papers: Paper I for candidates intending to teach classes I to V (Primary Level) and Paper II for those aspiring to teach classes VI to VIII (Upper Primary Level). Candidates can appear for either one or both papers depending on their career aspirations and educational qualifications. The examination serves as a gateway for recruitment in Jharkhand's government schools, including those run by the Department of School Education and Literacy. Successful candidates receive a JTET certificate valid for a lifetime, which is essential for applying to teaching positions advertised by various educational authorities in Jharkhand. The exam is designed to evaluate candidates' understanding of child pedagogy, teaching methodology, subject knowledge, and general awareness relevant to the teaching profession.
