JGEEBILS

The Joint Graduate Entrance Examination for Biology and Interdisciplinary Life Sciences, commonly known as JGEEBILS, is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India. This examination serves as the gateway for aspiring candidates seeking admission to integrated PhD programmes and other research programmes in biological sciences across premier institutions in India. JGEEBILS is specifically designed to assess candidates' understanding of fundamental concepts in biological sciences, including botany, zoology, life sciences, biochemistry, biophysics, microbiology, cell biology, genetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and environmental sciences. The examination follows a computer-based test (CBT) format and is conducted once annually, providing a single national platform for admission to various participating institutes across the country. Top participating institutes accepting JGEEBILS scores include premier research institutions and universities such as the National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune; Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB), Bengaluru; National Brain Research Centre (NBRC), Gurugram; National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi; Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology (RGCB), Thiruvananthapuram; Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar; and numerous other institutes affiliated with the DBT.
