GPAT

The Graduate Pharmacy Aptitude Test, commonly known as GPAT, is a national-level entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on behalf of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). This examination serves as the gateway for admission to Master of Pharmacy (M.Pharm) programmes offered by various government and private institutions across India. GPAT is specifically designed to assess the knowledge and aptitude of pharmacy graduates seeking postgraduate education in pharmaceutical sciences. The examination is conducted once a year in computer-based test (CBT) mode and covers a comprehensive range of subjects studied during the Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) curriculum. The test comprises 125 multiple-choice questions carrying a total of 500 marks, with each correct answer awarded 4 marks. Top GPAT qualifiers are eligible for direct admission to M.Pharm programmes at participating institutes, with many also receiving financial assistance in the form of AICTE stipends during their postgraduate studies. Premier institutions that accept GPAT scores include the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) centres across India; various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) offering pharmaceutical programmes; Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS) Pilani; Jamia Hamdard University; Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences; and numerous government and private pharmacy colleges affiliated to state and central universities. The examination primarily facilitates admissions to M.Pharm specialisations including Pharmaceutics; Pharmaceutical Chemistry; Pharmacology; Pharmacognosy; Pharmaceutical Analysis; Pharmacy Practice; Quality Assurance; Regulatory Affairs; and Industrial Pharmacy.
