The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test, commonly abbreviated as CSIR NET, is a prestigious national-level examination conducted to determine the eligibility of Indian nationals for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and for Lectureship (LS) / Assistant Professor positions in Indian universities and colleges. The exam is jointly conducted by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and the National Testing Agency (NTA), with NTA handling the operational aspects of the examination since December 2018. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research National Eligibility Test is conducted twice a year and covers five major science subjects: Chemical Sciences; Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean and Planetary Sciences; Life Sciences; Mathematical Sciences; and Physical Sciences. The exam carries a total of 200 marks and is conducted in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode across multiple cities in India. Candidates qualifying this examination become eligible for JRF and LS/Assistant Professor positions in premier research institutions like CSIR laboratories, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), national laboratories, and various universities across India.
