Established in November 1961 in collaboration with the MIT Sloan School of Management, the Ford Foundation, and the Government of West Bengal, the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta (IIM Calcutta or IIM-C) holds the distinction of being the first Indian Institute of Management to be established in the country. Located in Joka, Kolkata, West Bengal, IIM-C is a public, autonomous institution recognised as an Institute of National Importance by the Government of India under the IIM Act, 2017, and operates under the purview of the Ministry of Education.
