An architect is a professional who designs buildings and structures, combining creativity with technical knowledge to create functional and aesthetically pleasing spaces. They are responsible for creating detailed plans, ensuring structural safety, managing budgets, and coordinating with engineers, contractors, and clients throughout the construction process. To pursue a career in architecture, aspiring professionals must complete a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree, which is a five-year undergraduate programme recognised by the Council of Architecture (COA). Students can further specialise by pursuing a Master of Architecture (M.Arch), which typically takes two years. These courses cover subjects such as architectural design, building construction, environmental planning, structural systems, urban design, and computer-aided design (CAD). Practical training through internships and site visits forms an integral part of architectural education, helping students gain real-world experience before entering the profession. Before enrolling in architecture programmes, candidates must clear specific entrance examinations that assess their aptitude for design, mathematics, and spatial understanding. The National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) and JEE Main Paper 2 are the primary entrance exams for B.Arch admissions in India. These exams evaluate candidates' drawing skills, observation abilities, and understanding of architectural concepts.
